JANUARY BUSINESS MEETING RECAP

Brothers and Sisters, Our monthly business meeting was held on January 9, 2018 and here is a quick recap. The floor opened with General Chair Sara Gonzales reporting of a new GL Rep. Mike Manzo (CSA-BA) being assigned to LL 2339N. We welcome GL Rep. Mike Manzo, who was assigned to our local at the start of our negotiations, and also assisted with the Openskies current flight attendant contract. At this time, GL Rep. Edison Fraser will continue to attend & support the ExpressJet flight attendant negotiations. Pat Simms, a Sr. NMB mediator was in attendance at the last ExpressJet negotiations session, who generally makes an appearance when the sessions are close to a conclusion. An update on the ERJ and CRJ staffing was discussed, in relation to the announced LGA base closure May 31, 2018 and the current furloughed/transitioned flight attendants. Any updates will be communicated to the membership. Mark Diefenbach, Committee Chair, spoke about CommutAir and managements hesitance/unwillingness to allow union representation for probationary flight attendants. The union feels all flight attendants should have the unions support in any meetings or dealings with the company. Your committee members and grievance reps will continue to communicate this progress with you as it unfolds. CRJ Special Rep. Marche Johnson-Cooper reported on the recent power outage in ATL, which resulted in no grievances, as the company was far more proactive and willingness to work with our flight attendants during the chaos that unfolded. Also, two upcoming CRJ flight attendant classes are scheduled for Jan. 29 and early February. ERJ Special Rep. Melissa Brennan reported on the upcoming deadline for the 2018 IAM Scholarship Competition (completed and postmarked by Feb. 23, 2018). The competition is open to members of the IAM and their children throughout the United States and Canada under procedures and rules of eligibility explained in the official announcement. The IAM Scholarship Fund, which is used exclusively to make possible these awards, was established by the delegates of the 1960 IAM Grand Lodge Convention. https://www.goiam.org/news/2018-iam-scholarship-competition-now-accepting-applications/ Ali Rhodes, Hotel Chair, spoke about hotel wait times. Please don't wait an excessive amount of time for hotel transportation. Both ERJ/CRJ contracts have language regarding options in lieu of waiting and for reimbursement if necessary. Base grievance reports were given by varying grievance reps. President Carli Meneses closed out the meeting with several E-board notices. The executive board will be conducting base visits beginning with EWR in Feb./2018, and LGA in Mar./2018. All other base visits will be conducted throughout 2018 with notice. Please stay tuned. Tellers are still needed for elections in April and June. If interested, please send a letter of intent to Carli Meneses at iamcarlicappelli@gmail.com. 2017 FA Appreciation Days were successful. We will have 2018 FA Appreciation Days with advance notice for all to participate. Stay tuned. For union meeting absences to be accepted, please note the bylaws state they must be requested no later than 10 days prior. All agenda items were voted on and accepted. We hope to see you at the next business meeting, Feb. 13, 2018 at 1 PM. Meeting location is the Residence Inn/ EWR Airport. Shuttle service is provided from P4 area.
