MNPL Planning Committee
Brothers and Sisters,
The Machinists Non-Partisan Political League (MNPL) Planning Committee met the week of May 8th in Washington, D.C. to discuss our current political climate and the Trump administration. More than 30% of IAM members voted and supported Trump during the election. President Trump campaigned that he was against NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) and moving jobs overseas. It is our job to hold him accountable to bring jobs back to the U.S., as well as increase the U.S. manufacturing industry and improve our infrastructure. We, as members of the labor movement, need to make sure that Capitol Hill supports good paying jobs, safe and healthy working environments and protects both civil and women's rights.
MNPL is completely funded by voluntary donations in order to give working people political leverage and support worker's rights. Spokepersons from the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) and the Democratic Governor Association (DGA) briefed us on the upcoming House, Senate, and Governor races for 2017 and 2018. The DLCC focuses on the State level of government and grassroots organizing. The DGA discussed this year's Governor's race in NJ and the 2018 Governor's races in NY, OH, IL, MI, TX, and GA. Your vote matters and it is of the utmost importance that you familiarize yourself with candidates and vote for the candidiates who support working people.
Keep in mind no dues money is ever used to support MNPL, so our leverage on Capitol Hill relies solely on voluntary contributions. If you are interested in donating to MNPL, please reply to this email and we can get you set up with a monthly payroll withdrawal or you can make a one time donation at www.goiam.org/mnpl/mnpl-contributions . Even $1 a paycheck can help our cause.
There's never been a more important time in our history for working people to stand up and stand together.
